History
The Scottsdale Unified School District was founded in 1896 by Major Winfield Scott, who was also the founder of Scottsdale.
The first classes were taught in 1896 by Aliza Bount in her adobe home near what is now Civic Center Plaza and Second Street.
The district’s first schoolhouse, now known as the “Little Red Schoolhouse” and home to the Scottsdale Historical Society, was built in 1909 with a $5,000 bond approved by all 13 citizens who voted.

The district is rated an A-rated district by the Arizona State Board of Education.
29 out of 30 SUSD schools earned an A or B rating for the 2023-2024 school year.
